Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong airport pick for apartment space and family-friendly facilities, with some noise. An upscale apartment hotel near Sydney Airport, scored for what it is.

The Branksome is an upscale apartment hotel in Mascot, and a strong pick when you want more than a bed near Sydney Airport. Spacious suites with kitchens, laundry facilities and balconies make it particularly useful for families and longer stays. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, helpful staff and generous room sizes. The indoor pool, gym, sauna and rooftop bar give it more staying power than a basic stopover hotel.

The trade-off is location: this is an airport base, not a walk-out-the-door Sydney sightseeing address, and Mascot station takes a meaningful walk. Aircraft and road noise bother some guests, while check-in and room-preparation hiccups recur occasionally despite generally positive service feedback. Parking and scheduled airport transfers cost extra. We'd choose it for practical comfort and space; light sleepers and first-time visitors prioritizing central sights should look elsewhere.

• Best for: Families needing apartment space; Airport stopovers; Longer self-catering stays

• Watch out for: Aircraft and road noise; A substantial walk to Mascot station; Paid parking and airport transfers

• Location: Convenient for Sydney Airport; less practical for central sightseeing, with Mascot station roughly 16–20 minutes away on foot.

• Rooms: Generously sized apartment-style suites with kitchens, laundry facilities and balconies; noise varies by position.

• Cleanliness: Strong praise across recent reviews, with occasional lapses rather than a consistent problem.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, though slow check-in and room-preparation mistakes appear on multiple sites.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, children's pool, gym, sauna, restaurant and rooftop bar offer plenty beyond the apartment basics.

• Fees and surprises: Parking, scheduled airport transfers and breakfast cost extra; a security bond is required.
