Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong central Sydney choice for spacious rooms, breakfast and classic hotel comfort. a traditional five-star business hotel overlooking Hyde Park, scored for what it is.

Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is a traditional five-star city hotel that delivers where it counts: spacious rooms, comfortable beds and a central location opposite the park, close to shopping and St James station. We'd pick it for a comfortable sightseeing or business base rather than cutting-edge design. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, helpful staff and breakfast; the rooftop indoor pool, gym and spa round out a substantial offering.

The trade-offs are mostly about consistency and atmosphere. Tripadvisor reviews flag occasional corridor or neighbouring-room noise, awkward shower temperature controls and some uneven arrival experiences. The Club Lounge earns praise for its food and views but can get crowded in the evening. Parking costs extra, and breakfast and lounge access depend on your booking. We'd skip it if intimate surroundings or reliably hushed rooms matter most.

• Best for: first-time Sydney visitors; business travelers wanting generous rooms; couples who enjoy breakfast and wellness facilities

• Watch out for: occasional noise between rooms; busy evening Club Lounge; parking and breakfast extras

• Location: Opposite Hyde Park, with central shopping and St James station close by.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable; some guests report soundproofing and shower-control frustrations.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Generally helpful and welcoming, though some Tripadvisor guests describe check-in and communication lapses.

• Amenities: Rooftop heated indoor pool, gym, spa, sauna and steam room; Club Lounge access is restricted.

• Fees and surprises: Paid self-parking and valet; check breakfast and lounge inclusions. Marriott says there is no hotel airport shuttle.
