Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong Sydney base for helpful service and kitchenettes, not polished interiors. A practical 4-star apartment hotel in Potts Point, scored for what it is.

The Macleay is a practical 4-star apartment hotel in Potts Point, and we'd choose it for neighborhood convenience rather than luxury. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful reception team, cleanliness and comfortable beds. Kitchenettes make longer stays easier, with a supermarket opposite and plenty of nearby cafés. Book the right room and harbour views add considerably to the appeal.

The trade-off is compact studios and interiors that some guests find dated: this is comfortable, functional accommodation rather than a stylish retreat. District-view rooms don't overlook the harbour, and even harbour-view categories have different outlooks, so confirm yours if the Bridge matters. Parking costs extra and cannot be reserved; gym access is off-site. We'd skip it if spacious rooms and contemporary four-star polish are priorities.

• Best for: Couples exploring Sydney; Longer-stay travelers who self-cater; Travelers who prefer a neighborhood base

• Watch out for: Compact studios and some dated interiors; Harbour-view outlooks vary; Paid parking cannot be reserved

• Location: Restaurants and a supermarket nearby; Kings Cross station is an 8–10-minute walk.

• Rooms: Most studios are 22–25 square meters with kitchenettes; confirm the specific view before booking.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff earn repeated praise across review sites.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi and guest laundries; gym access is off-site.

• Fees and surprises: Secure parking is paid and first-come, first-served; district-view rooms have no harbour outlook.
