#8 of 9 hotels in Darling Harbour & Pyrmont by Axel's take. Darling Harbour & Pyrmont is #6 of 11 places to stay in Sydney. The best hotels in Darling Harbour & Pyrmont, ranked · Where to stay in Sydney

Axel's take: 7.9/10

A friendly Sydney pub base, provided shared bathrooms and stairs suit you. A budget pub stay with private rooms and mostly shared bathrooms in Ultimo, scored for what it is.

Lord Wolseley is budget accommodation above a neighbourhood pub, not a conventional full-service hotel. We'd pick it for character, welcoming staff and a walkable Ultimo location near Darling Harbour, the ICC and light rail. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the comfortable beds and cleanliness, while the pub downstairs gives it more personality than a generic budget stay.

The compromises are substantial but straightforward: most rooms share bathrooms, kitchens are communal, and there's no lift or bedroom air-conditioning. Recent guests describe uncomfortable summer heat, and some report pub or equipment noise despite the quiet residential setting. Confirm an explicitly ensuite room if sharing is a deal-breaker. It's a good fit for independent travelers who want a simple city base; we'd skip it for step-free access, reliable climate control or guaranteed quiet.

  • Best for: Budget-minded city explorers; Travelers who enjoy neighbourhood pubs; ICC visitors comfortable with shared facilities

  • Watch out for: Most rooms have shared bathrooms; Stairs only; no lift; No bedroom air-conditioning; possible pub noise

  • Location: Residential Ultimo setting within walking distance of Darling Harbour, the ICC and light rail.

  • Rooms: Simple private rooms with comfortable beds; mostly shared bathrooms, with some ensuite options listed.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Booking.com and Expedia feedback is generally positive about rooms and shared bathrooms.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength across accommodation reviews.

  • Amenities: Pub, bistro, communal kitchens, free Wi-Fi and Sunday jazz; check bistro opening days.

  • Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; Expedia lists a credit-card surcharge and seasonal bar, dining and laundry closures from December 31 to January 2.
