Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong central base, though busy public spaces temper the five-star experience. a large five-star business hotel in Sydney’s CBD, scored for what it is.

Hilton Sydney is a large five-star business hotel opposite the Queen Victoria Building, and we’d pick it for city convenience rather than intimate luxury. Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise its central location, clean rooms and helpful staff. Hilton says the lobby, executive lounge and corridors were refreshed in January 2025. Glass Brasserie and the heritage Marble Bar give you good reasons to stay in for the evening.

The trade-off is scale: Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly mention breakfast queues and a crowded executive lounge, while some find standard rooms small for the category. The indoor lap pool belongs to the shared Fitness First club, not a secluded hotel leisure area; recent guests flag restricted weekend hours. It’s a strong choice for work trips and sightseeing, but we’d skip it for a quiet, resort-style escape.

• Best for: business travelers; shopping and sightseeing trips; travelers who prioritize public transport

• Watch out for: breakfast queues and executive-lounge crowds; some standard rooms feel compact; shared pool with restricted weekend hours

• Location: Opposite the QVB, with light rail outside and Town Hall station nearby.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and well equipped; some guests find standard rooms compact.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings, despite occasional housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, though busy periods can expose inconsistencies.

• Amenities: Glass Brasserie, Marble Bar, spa and shared Fitness First gym with a 25-metre indoor pool.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking costs extra; breakfast and executive-lounge access depend on your booking.
