Great Southern is a simple heritage city hotel that makes more sense as a sightseeing base than somewhere to linger. Its strongest asset is the location: Central Station, Chinatown and light rail are close by. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and good value. We'd consider it for a short, transport-focused stay, with the downstairs bar and restaurant adding convenience.

Rooms can feel dated or compact, and housekeeping may cost extra depending on your booking. More importantly, the hotel currently confirms building-code and fire-compliance works, with noisy work scheduled between 10am and 4pm through January 31, 2027. On-site parking is closed until approximately that date. We'd skip it for daytime rest or a stay requiring on-site parking; travelers out exploring all day have a stronger case.
