#9 of 9 hotels in Darling Harbour & Pyrmont by Axel's take. Darling Harbour & Pyrmont is #6 of 11 places to stay in Sydney. The best hotels in Darling Harbour & Pyrmont, ranked · Where to stay in Sydney

Axel's take: 7.3/10

Good-value pub accommodation near Darling Harbour, but quiet nights aren't guaranteed. A budget pub hotel with private ensuite rooms in inner-city Ultimo, scored for what it is.

Glasgow Arms is a budget pub hotel, not a full-service city hotel, and it's a good pick if location and value matter more than polish. Darling Harbour, ICC Sydney and light rail are within easy walking distance. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, comfortable beds and clean, functional rooms; the downstairs bistro is another useful plus.

The compromises are compact rooms, ageing fittings and uneven sound insulation. Guests on several sites mention traffic, pub or neighbouring-room noise, although others sleep comfortably. Steep stairs and no lift make it unsuitable for travelers needing step-free access. Nearby Powerhouse Ultimo is also undergoing major construction, adding a daytime noise risk. We'd choose it for a practical, budget-conscious city break, but skip it for guaranteed quiet or modern hotel comforts.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious city explorers; ICC visitors traveling light; Travelers who enjoy a local pub

  • Watch out for: Traffic, pub and adjoining-room noise; Steep stairs; no lift; Nearby Powerhouse Ultimo construction

  • Location: Walkable to ICC Sydney and Darling Harbour, with light rail nearby.

  • Rooms: Simple ensuite rooms with air-conditioning; size, condition and noise exposure vary.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent reports, with occasional bathroom-cleaning and maintenance complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength; reception hours are limited.

  • Amenities: Pub, bistro and free Wi-Fi; Expedia's indoor-pool listing refers to nearby access, not an onsite pool.

  • Fees and surprises: No onsite parking; Powerhouse construction nearby can begin at 7am on weekdays.
