Axel's take: 8.0/10

Good-value pub rooms with friendly staff, but shared bathrooms and noise limit the appeal. Budget pub rooms with shared bathrooms in Darlinghurst, scored for what it is.

Darlo Bar is budget pub accommodation, not a conventional hotel: nine double rooms sit two floors above a lively Darlinghurst local. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want a private bedroom without paying for full hotel facilities. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean shared bathrooms. Cafes, restaurants and Kings Cross station are within easy walking distance, while the rooftop bar adds somewhere sociable to unwind.

The compromises matter: there are no en-suite bathrooms, no lift and only street parking. Recent guests disagree about noise—some sleep comfortably, while others report disruptive street activity. Expedia also currently flags construction at a neighboring building; check its status before booking. We’d skip it for light sleepers, anyone needing step-free access, or travelers expecting full-service hotel comforts.

  • Best for: Solo travelers on a budget; Couples comfortable with shared bathrooms; Short stays near Darlinghurst nightlife

  • Watch out for: Shared bathrooms and stair-only access; Street noise and possible pub noise; Neighboring construction flagged by Expedia

  • Location: Walkable Darlinghurst setting near cafes and St Vincent’s Hospital; Kings Cross station is about six minutes away.

  • Rooms: Nine private double rooms with air conditioning, TVs, mini-fridges and tea-making facilities; no en-suites.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise clean bedrooms and shared bathrooms.

  • Service: Friendly, accommodating staff are a recurring strength; arrange arrivals after 9pm in advance.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, rooftop bar, pool table and luggage storage; facilities are pub-focused.

  • Fees and surprises: Street parking only; Expedia lists a credit-card surcharge and neighboring construction.
