Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong budget pick if shared bathrooms suit you A simple 3-star heritage guesthouse with shared bathrooms in North Sydney, scored for what it is.

Dalziel Lodge is a simple 3-star heritage guesthouse in North Sydney, not a conventional full-service hotel. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want a private bedroom and good value without paying for extras. Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and the quiet setting. The shared kitchen, complimentary basic breakfast and walkable access to Victoria Cross metro make it a practical base beyond the city center.

The main compromise is sharing bathrooms, with several guests finding the facilities cramped. Communal spaces can also feel tight when busy. Expedia lists no staffed front desk or lift, so read arrival instructions carefully and check room access if stairs are difficult. We’d skip it if an ensuite bathroom or traditional hotel service is essential.

  • Best for: Solo travelers on a budget; Self-catering stays; Visitors to Mater Hospital

  • Watch out for: Shared bathrooms can feel cramped; No staffed front desk; No lift

  • Location: Quiet North Sydney setting near cafes, Mater Hospital and Victoria Cross metro; outside the city center.

  • Rooms: Simple private bedrooms with air conditioning, TVs and fridges; guests commonly praise bed comfort.

  • Cleanliness: Consistent praise across Expedia and Trip.com for clean bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

  • Service: Guests often describe helpful staff, but assistance is remote rather than through a staffed reception.

  • Amenities: Shared kitchen, basic complimentary breakfast, garden, laundry and free Wi-Fi.

  • Fees and surprises: Limited paid parking requires advance arrangement; laundry is coin-operated and late checkout may cost extra.
