Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong Surry Hills base, with comfortable beds and bathroom layouts worth checking. a colourful boutique hotel with apartment-style residences in Surry Hills, scored for what it is.

ADGE is a colourful boutique hotel with apartment-style residences, best approached as a comfortable neighbourhood base rather than a full-service luxury stay. We'd pick it for Surry Hills dining, Oxford Street nightlife and easy access to the city. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the comfortable beds, helpful staff and generally clean rooms. The café and on-site restaurants add convenience, while larger residences give families and longer-stay guests more options.

Choose the room category carefully: standard hotel rooms are not apartments, desks are not universal, and some bathrooms have glass partitions that guests find insufficiently private. Housekeeping feedback is mostly positive, though occasional reports flag dusty corners or incomplete cleaning. Parking costs extra and spaces are limited. We'd skip it if complete bathroom privacy or a consistently equipped workspace matters more than location and character.

• Best for: couples exploring Sydney's food scene; travelers visiting Oxford Street nightlife; families booking larger residences

• Watch out for: limited bathroom privacy in some rooms; room layouts and facilities vary; paid, limited parking

• Location: Walkable Surry Hills setting near Crown Street and Oxford Street; Museum Station is roughly a 10–13-minute walk.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and bold décor; confirm bathroom layout, desk availability and whether your category includes cooking facilities.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, with occasional reports of dusty corners and incomplete housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength, despite some uneven check-in experiences.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, café, on-site dining and laundry facilities; larger residences offer more living space.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is charged separately, availability is limited and vehicle-height restrictions apply.
