Stoweflake is an aging mid-range mountain resort that works better as a Stowe base than a destination in itself. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests regularly praise the convenient location, spacious rooms and helpful staff; fireplaces in some rooms add character. Cleanliness earns plenty of positive feedback, so this is not uniformly a poor stay. We'd consider it for travelers spending most of their time exploring outside the hotel.
The drawbacks are more than cosmetic: recent reviews across sites describe tired interiors, malfunctioning fixtures and inconsistent service. Summer 2026 guests reported the indoor pool and spa closed for renovation and the restaurant unavailable; an October review still reports the main pool out of service. Breakfast is basic, and resort and destination fees deserve checking. We'd skip it for a spa getaway or an amenities-led family holiday unless reopening is confirmed directly.
