#6 of 9 hotels in Historic District by Axel's take. Historic District is #1 of 6 places to stay in St. Augustine. The best hotels in Historic District, ranked · Where to stay in St. Augustine

Axel's take: 8.2/10

Choose it for walkable sightseeing and friendly service, not resort amenities. A simple 2-star, exterior-corridor motel on St. Augustine’s historic bayfront, scored for what it is.

Marion Motor Lodge is a simple 2-star bayfront motel whose biggest advantage is stepping straight into historic St. Augustine. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want to park once and explore on foot. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location and helpful staff, while recent reviews generally describe clean, comfortable rooms. Bay-view rooms and the shared rooftop terrace add appeal without changing its no-frills character.

The trade-offs are older-motel inconsistencies: some guests report worn fittings, uneven housekeeping or noisy air-conditioning, although these do not dominate the feedback. The former swimming pool is gone, despite lingering listings, and there’s no breakfast. Parking costs extra, with one space per room, and upper rooms require stairs. We’d skip it for a pool-focused family trip or if polished, reliably quiet rooms matter most.

  • Best for: Historic-district sightseeing on foot; Couples happy with motel basics; Travelers bringing dogs

  • Watch out for: Former pool removed; no breakfast; Paid parking, one space per room; Variable room condition; no elevator

  • Location: Across from the municipal marina, within easy walking distance of historic-district restaurants and attractions.

  • Rooms: Simple rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges and coffee makers; views vary, and some guests report wear or noisy air-conditioning.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly praised across booking sites, with occasional recent housekeeping complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are among the most consistent positives across sources.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and a rooftop terrace; no pool or breakfast, and no elevator.

  • Fees and surprises: Nightly parking and dog fees apply; one parking space per room, with early check-in and late checkout also potentially chargeable.
