Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong sightseeing base with standout staff, but extra fees and bayfront construction. A small, full-service mid-range hotel on the historic bayfront, scored for what it is.

This small, full-service mid-range Hilton is a strong pick for exploring historic St. Augustine on foot. Its colorful, Spanish Colonial-style buildings suit the neighborhood, and selected rooms have balconies overlooking Matanzas Bay. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location, cleanliness and helpful staff; recent Expedia reviews also speak well of the restaurant. We'd choose it for a sightseeing weekend rather than a resort-style escape.

The main catches are mandatory destination charges and paid, valet-only on-site parking. More importantly, the city's bayfront seawall and promenade reconstruction is scheduled through fall 2027, with construction activity and possible pedestrian-access disruptions along the waterfront. That doesn't erase the hotel's strengths, but check conditions before paying extra for a bay-facing room. We'd skip it if an undisturbed waterfront setting or minimal extra charges are priorities.

  • Best for: Couples on sightseeing weekends; First-time St. Augustine visitors; Travelers who prefer exploring on foot

  • Watch out for: Bayfront seawall and promenade construction through fall 2027; Mandatory daily destination charge; Paid valet-only on-site parking

  • Location: Across the road from Matanzas Bay, within easy walking distance of historic sights, shops and restaurants.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable and well reviewed; select rooms offer bay-view balconies.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest reviews.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff attract repeated praise, including in recent reviews.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, fitness center, Aviles restaurant and lounge, room service and free Wi-Fi.

  • Fees and surprises: Mandatory destination charge and separate valet parking; nearby waterfront construction may affect pedestrian access.
