Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong beach base with refreshed rooms, but resort extras come with fees. a renovated mid-range boutique hotel a short walk from the beach, scored for what it is.

Castillo Real is a renovated mid-range boutique hotel, now part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection rather than Ascend. It’s a strong pick for beach time without committing to a sprawling resort. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms and helpful staff, while Tripadvisor reviewers highlight the refreshed interiors and inviting pool area. Beach access is a short walk away, with local restaurants nearby.

The main catch is the extras: Hilton lists both a daily resort charge and separate parking charges, and breakfast isn’t included. Despite the resort name, this is a small hotel near the sand, not a beachfront resort with extensive facilities. Restaurant hours can be limited, so don’t assume all-day dining. We’d choose it for a relaxed beach break; skip it if downtown walkability or direct oceanfront access matters most.

  • Best for: couples on a beach break; families wanting spacious rooms; Hilton loyalists with a car

  • Watch out for: daily resort charge and paid parking; not directly oceanfront; limited restaurant hours

  • Location: Short walk to beach access and local dining; historic downtown is about a 15-minute drive.

  • Rooms: Recent guests praise refreshed, spacious rooms; balconies and ocean views depend on room category.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia reviews.

  • Service: Helpful, welcoming staff earn repeated praise across several review sites.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, fitness center, restaurant and bar; more boutique hotel than full-service resort.

  • Fees and surprises: Daily resort charge and separate self-parking charges; breakfast costs extra.
