Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong beach-and-location pick, but choose your wing carefully and temper dining expectations. A family-friendly five-star beach resort split between two wings in Naama Bay, scored for what it is.

Novotel Sharm el Sheikh is a family-friendly five-star resort whose strongest selling points are its sandy beach and walkable Naama Bay setting. We'd choose it for an easy beach holiday rather than a polished luxury escape. Booking.com ratings are strong, and recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff. Several Tripadvisor guests also report refreshed rooms and public areas following renovations.

The important distinction is between the beachfront Beach Wing and the Palm Wing across the road. Book the former if easy sea access matters. Food gets both enthusiastic praise and recurring complaints about variety, while service can be uneven when requests need resolving. Check exactly which restaurants and drinks your meal plan includes. We'd skip it if consistently excellent dining or seamless five-star service is central to the trip.

  • Best for: Families wanting beach and pool time; Couples who enjoy walking into Naama Bay; Beachgoers booking the Beach Wing

  • Watch out for: Palm Wing is across the road from the beach; Buffet variety divides guests; All-inclusive restaurant and drink restrictions

  • Location: Private sandy beach with Naama Bay's promenade, restaurants and shops within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable and spacious; recent guests report renovated rooms, but check the wing and room category.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia reviews, particularly in guest rooms.

  • Service: Many staff receive warm praise, though slow responses and inconsistent problem handling recur.

  • Amenities: Accor lists five pools, a kids' club, gym and spa, alongside the private beach.

  • Fees and surprises: Meal-plan inclusions need checking; airport transfers and late checkout can cost extra.
