Axel's take: 8.8/10

A characterful downtown base with standout staff, spacious rooms and some unwelcome extras. an upscale 4-star boutique hotel near Seattle’s waterfront, scored for what it is.

The Alexis is an upscale 4-star boutique hotel near Seattle’s waterfront, and it’s a strong pick for exploring downtown on foot. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely welcoming front-desk staff; Booking.com’s strong comfort and cleanliness ratings reinforce that picture. The Bookstore Bar & Café adds character, while Pike Place Market, the ferry terminal and Pioneer Square are within easy walking distance.

The main compromises are the extras and dining consistency. Sonesta confirms a mandatory daily destination fee, paid valet-only hotel parking and no complimentary breakfast. Recent Tripadvisor feedback is mixed on restaurant service and opening hours, so check before planning dinner around it. Some guests mention street noise, though many describe quiet rooms. We’d choose it for a car-light city break, but skip it if included parking and breakfast matter most.

• Best for: couples exploring downtown; car-free sightseeing breaks; stadium and ferry visitors

• Watch out for: mandatory destination fee; paid valet-only hotel parking; mixed dining feedback

• Location: Walkable to the waterfront, Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square and ferry terminal.

• Rooms: Space, comfortable beds and attractive design earn repeated praise; street noise varies by room.

• Cleanliness: Strong ratings across major sites, reinforced by repeated recent praise for clean rooms.

• Service: Welcoming, helpful front-desk staff are a consistent strength, despite occasional service lapses.

• Amenities: Bookstore Bar & Café, a 24-hour fitness center and on-site salon; breakfast is not included.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory daily destination fee; valet parking and pets cost extra, with no hotel self-parking.
