Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong downtown choice, especially if you’ll use the pool and spa. an upscale 4-star downtown hotel with a pool and spa, scored for what it is.

Hyatt at Olive 8 is an upscale 4-star downtown hotel that gets the important things right: clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds and a walkable location near the convention center and Westlake transit. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness and helpful staff. We’d put it high on the shortlist for sightseeing or business, particularly if you’ll use the indoor saline pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room rather than just sleep here.

The trade-offs are mostly about style and extras. Some recent travelers find the rooms dated beside newer nearby hotels, although comfort earns much broader praise. Hyatt confirms a daily destination fee, breakfast costs extra, and valet parking is expensive. It’s a strong pick for families and wellness-minded travelers; we’d look elsewhere for cutting-edge interiors or fewer add-on charges.

• Best for: families who want an indoor pool; convention attendees; car-free downtown sightseeing

• Watch out for: daily destination fee; expensive valet parking; some dated room styling

• Location: Walkable downtown base near the convention center, Paramount Theatre and Westlake transit.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable, with particularly strong bed feedback; some travelers find the styling dated.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff receive broad praise, despite occasional individual disappointments.

• Amenities: Indoor saline pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, spa, 24-hour gym, Tidal+ restaurant and bagel shop.

• Fees and surprises: Daily destination fee applies; breakfast and valet parking cost extra.
