Axel's take: 8.3/10

Refreshed rooms and welcoming staff make this a strong resort pick, with some service gaps. An upscale Southwestern resort and conference hotel in McCormick Ranch, scored for what it is.

This upscale Southwestern resort and conference hotel is a strong pick for pool time and a comfortable Scottsdale base. The hotel’s 2024 renovation refreshed guestrooms and public spaces, and recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, clean rooms, attractive grounds and welcoming staff. Two pools, Luna Spa and a well-equipped gym give it substance beyond the conference facilities.

The main compromises are extra charges and uneven food-and-drink service: some recent guests describe disappointing café or poolside attention despite otherwise positive stays. A daily resort charge and separate parking charges also affect value. Adjacent McCormick Ranch Golf Club is undergoing a multiyear course revitalization; confirm available holes before planning around golf. We'd skip it for a walk-everywhere Old Town trip, and travelers avoiding stairs should confirm their room’s access.

• Best for: Couples wanting pool and spa downtime; Conference travelers; Families seeking resort activities

• Watch out for: Daily resort charge and paid parking; Uneven café and poolside service; Adjacent golf-course renovation; confirm availability

• Location: McCormick Ranch setting beside golf; better as a driving base than for exploring Old Town on foot.

• Rooms: Renovated in 2024, with frequent praise for beds and bathrooms; some accommodations involve stairs.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, with occasional housekeeping lapses rather than a widespread pattern.

• Service: Welcoming front-desk and bell staff stand out; food-and-drink service is less consistent.

• Amenities: Two outdoor pools, Luna Spa, a well-reviewed gym, dining venues and extensive meeting facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Daily resort charge, separate self-parking or valet charges, and a nonrefundable pet fee; golf revitalization remains a planning consideration.
