Axel's take: 8.5/10

Comfortable rooms and plenty to do, provided you want a casino-centered stay. An upscale 4-star casino resort outside central Scottsdale, scored for what it is.

Talking Stick is an upscale 4-star casino resort, and we'd pick it for a lively getaway rather than a secluded desert retreat. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms, generous bathrooms and friendly staff. Pools, dining, entertainment and the casino make staying on property appealing; recent guests also describe the indoor casino as smoke-free.

The trade-offs are a car-dependent location, a daily resort fee and an atmosphere geared toward gaming and events. Summer pool programming includes DJs, so check the calendar if quiet matters. Golfers should note that the adjacent Piipaash course is closed for overseeding until November 6, 2026; O’odham is open with cart-path restrictions. We'd skip it for a walkable Old Town break or a reliably quiet resort escape.

• Best for: Couples and friends who enjoy casinos; Pool-and-entertainment getaways; Conference travelers

• Watch out for: Daily resort fee and incidental hold; Car-dependent location; Piipaash golf closure until November 6, 2026

• Location: Convenient off Loop 101, but a car or rideshare is useful for exploring Scottsdale.

• Rooms: Guests frequently praise spacious layouts, comfortable beds and large bathrooms.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Recent feedback is largely friendly and helpful, with some Tripadvisor complaints about problem handling.

• Amenities: Two outdoor resort pools, casino, restaurants, spa and fitness center; adjacent golf has seasonal restrictions.

• Fees and surprises: Daily resort fee, nightly incidental authorization and possible early-check-in charges; parking is included.
