Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong self-catering choice for space and pools, with some practical catches. A mid-range, condo-style vacation-club resort in North Scottsdale, scored for what it is.

Scottsdale Links is a mid-range, condo-style vacation-club resort, not a full-service luxury retreat. It's a strong pick for families and longer stays: spacious suites have full kitchens and washers and dryers, while two pools make downtime easy. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable accommodations and generally clean grounds and rooms. The North Scottsdale location works particularly well for TPC golf and WestWorld events.

The trade-offs are practical: you'll want a car, there are no elevators, and some guests report dated interiors, road or aircraft noise, and unwelcome timeshare invitations. Hilton lists a daily resort charge and separate parking charges; Expedia also warns of neighboring construction and possible noise. We'd skip it for a walkable Old Town break or polished resort service, but choose it for apartment-style convenience.

• Best for: Families wanting room to spread out; Longer self-catering stays; Golfers and WestWorld visitors

• Watch out for: No elevators; request ground-floor accommodation if needed; Road, aircraft and possible neighboring construction noise; Resort and parking charges; timeshare invitations

• Location: Convenient for TPC Scottsdale and WestWorld; a car is useful for dining and Old Town.

• Rooms: Large apartment-style suites with kitchens and laundry; some guests find the interiors dated.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, particularly on Expedia, with occasional complaints about floors and carpets.

• Service: Helpful, accommodating staff earn repeated praise; some guests dislike the timeshare approach.

• Amenities: Two outdoor pools, hot tubs, a gym, grills, splashpad and playground favor relaxed family stays.

• Fees and surprises: Daily resort charge, separate paid parking and 10 a.m. checkout; Expedia flags neighboring construction.
