Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong pick for personal service, comfortable rooms and Costanera convenience. a small, full-service mid-range hotel near Costanera Center, scored for what it is.

Los Españoles Plus is a small, full-service mid-range hotel that earns its appeal through comfort and attentive staff rather than flashy design. Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful reception team; breakfast also gets consistently good feedback. Across the river from Costanera Center, it's a strong pick for shopping and business trips, with free parking, a restaurant and wellness facilities adding practical value.

The trade-offs are mostly about expectations: interiors lean traditional, the rooftop pool is small, and this isn't the spot for nightlife immediately outside the door. Expedia lists the outdoor pool season as November through March, so don't count on an October swim without checking. We'd skip it for cutting-edge luxury or a sightseeing base in Santiago's historic center.

• Best for: business travelers; couples prioritizing comfort and service; Costanera Center shopping trips

• Watch out for: small, seasonal rooftop pool; traditional rather than contemporary interiors; limited nightlife immediately nearby

• Location: Across the river from Costanera Center; Expedia puts Tobalaba metro about 12 minutes away on foot.

• Rooms: Official room sizes range from 20-square-meter twins to 50-square-meter suites; guests praise comfort.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Expedia guest feedback.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are the most consistently praised feature.

• Amenities: Restaurant, gym, sauna, steam room and hot tub; the small rooftop pool is seasonal.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; airport transfers cost extra. Confirm breakfast inclusion and seasonal pool availability.
