Axel's take: 7.1/10

A practical budget base with friendly staff, but uneven room condition. A basic 2-star motel on upper State Street, scored for what it is.

Town and Country Inn is a basic 2-star motel on upper State Street, best treated as a practical base rather than a vacation destination. Free parking, in-room microwaves and refrigerators make it useful for a short, car-based stay. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and friendly staff, while newer Tripadvisor reviews include positive reports of refreshed interiors. It's a reasonable budget option if you want the essentials without hotel extras.

The catch is consistency. Tripadvisor's much weaker overall feedback contrasts with better Booking.com and Expedia scores, and some guests still report worn finishes, uncomfortable beds or noisy air-conditioning. This isn't the downtown pedestrian strip or the waterfront. We'd skip it if polished rooms, dependable quiet or walking to the beach are priorities.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious travelers with a car; Short work trips; No-frills overnight stops

  • Watch out for: Uneven room condition and comfort; Reports of traffic or air-conditioning noise; Not a downtown or beachfront location

  • Location: Upper State Street near eateries and Cottage Hospital; better suited to driving than a beach-centered stay.

  • Rooms: Microwaves and refrigerators are useful; recent feedback ranges from refreshed and comfortable to worn and noisy.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Expedia reviews are predominantly positive about cleanliness, despite weaker historical Tripadvisor feedback.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength in recent guest reviews.

  • Amenities: Free on-site parking and Wi-Fi cover the basics; selected suites offer kitchen facilities.

  • Fees and surprises: An incidental authorization is required; pets and early check-in or late checkout can incur charges.
