#7 of 7 hotels in Upper State Street by Axel's take. Upper State Street is #4 of 6 places to stay in Santa Barbara. The best hotels in Upper State Street, ranked · Where to stay in Santa Barbara

Axel's take: 5.9/10

A practical budget stop, but cleanliness and noise make it a gamble. A basic budget motel on upper State Street, scored for what it is.

Rose Garden Inn is a basic budget motel on upper State Street, best considered for a short, practical stop rather than a Santa Barbara getaway. Free parking, nearby shops and places to eat, and rooms with microwaves and refrigerators give it some budget appeal. Recent Expedia guests often praise helpful staff and clean rooms, but the overall feedback remains mixed.

The sticking point is consistency. Across guest-review sites, complaints recur about uneven cleaning, worn facilities, malfunctioning equipment, and noise through walls and plumbing. Plenty of travelers find it adequate, but even a simple motel should deliver reliable cleanliness and working basics. We'd consider it only if keeping costs down outweighs comfort; light sleepers and anyone wanting a dependable vacation base should look elsewhere.

  • Best for: Budget travelers with a car; Short, practical overnight stops

  • Watch out for: Inconsistent cleaning and maintenance; Thin walls and noisy plumbing; Deposit and pet charges

  • Location: Upper State Street near shops and dining; better suited to driving than a downtown or beachfront stay.

  • Rooms: Basic rooms with microwaves and refrigerators; condition and equipment reliability vary.

  • Cleanliness: Recent feedback ranges from spotless rooms to dirty bathrooms; consistency is the concern.

  • Service: Many guests praise friendly staff, though problem resolution receives mixed feedback.

  • Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi, plus laundry facilities; no breakfast listed.

  • Fees and surprises: Booking listings indicate a deposit and extra pet charges; confirm directly, as the supplied official website could not be accessed.
