#3 of 7 hotels in Upper State Street by Axel's take. Upper State Street is #4 of 6 places to stay in Santa Barbara. The best hotels in Upper State Street, ranked · Where to stay in Santa Barbara

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong budget base with clean rooms, free parking and a pool. a no-frills 2-star motel on upper State Street, scored for what it is.

Oasis Inn & Suites is a no-frills 2-star motel on upper State Street, and it's a strong pick for travelers who want Santa Barbara without paying for a beachfront address. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff; Booking.com feedback broadly agrees. Free parking, an outdoor pool and in-room fridges and microwaves make it practical, while selected studios and suites add kitchens.

The compromise is location: nearby restaurants are walkable, but downtown is roughly a ten-minute drive, not on your doorstep. Street-facing rooms can pick up traffic noise, and there's no elevator. Tripadvisor's smaller review pool is less enthusiastic, including some uneven reception experiences. Don't count on breakfast being included. We'd choose it for a simple, car-based visit, but skip it for a walk-everywhere beach break.

  • Best for: budget-conscious travelers with a car; families wanting kitchen-equipped suites; short, practical stays

  • Watch out for: traffic noise in street-facing rooms; downtown requires a drive; no elevator or included breakfast

  • Location: Upper State Street, near restaurants; downtown is about ten minutes away by car.

  • Rooms: Simple rooms with fridges and microwaves; selected studios and suites have kitchens.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent Expedia and Booking.com feedback.

  • Service: Recent feedback favors friendly staff, though some Tripadvisor guests report less welcoming reception.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi and free parking; no elevator or included breakfast.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a deposit and charges for early check-in or late checkout; arrange late arrivals ahead.
