Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong budget base for Hayes Valley, with limited free parking and comfortable basics. A no-frills budget motel in Hayes Valley, now called Symphony Inn, scored for what it is.

The former Days Inn at 465 Grove Street now operates as Symphony Inn, a no-frills motel rather than a full-service 3-star hotel. It’s a strong pick for travelers who prioritize location and value: Hayes Valley restaurants, the opera and symphony are within easy walking distance. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Free parking is a useful bonus, provided you get a space.

The building still shows its age, some rooms are tight, and sound insulation can be weak. A June 2026 Tripadvisor guest also reported daytime construction nearby; whether that work continues is unconfirmed, so ask before booking if you’ll be resting during the day. Parking is limited, not guaranteed, and an incidental deposit is required. We’d skip it for polished interiors or dependable quiet, but recommend it for a practical city break.

• Best for: Budget-conscious couples and solo travelers; Opera, symphony and concert visitors; Travelers exploring Hayes Valley

• Watch out for: Limited, unguaranteed parking; Older building and variable sound insulation; Nearby construction reported in June 2026; current status unconfirmed

• Location: Walkable Hayes Valley base near restaurants, performing-arts venues and public transit.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds, air conditioning and mini-fridges; some rooms feel cramped and dated.

• Cleanliness: Recent feedback is predominantly positive, though Booking.com’s cleanliness rating is lower than Expedia’s.

• Service: Friendly, accommodating staff are a recurring strength in recent guest reviews.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, limited free parking, an elevator and a staffed front desk; a simple rather than full-service setup.

• Fees and surprises: An incidental deposit is required; parking is not guaranteed, and the property now trades as Symphony Inn.
