Hotels in Romea budget hostel with dorms and private rooms in Monti
7.2/10
A practical Monti base, but cleanliness and cooling need more consistency.
New Generation is a budget hostel in a convent wing in Monti, not a conventional hotel. We'd consider it for a short sightseeing stay: Termini and the Colosseum are walkable, and rooms have their own bathrooms, with dorm guests sharing theirs. Booking.com and Expedia guests regularly praise the location and helpful staff; comfortable beds and large lockers are other recurring positives.
The trade-offs are inconsistent upkeep and extras that complicate the budget proposition. Recent reviews across several sites mention unreliable cooling, patchy Wi-Fi and bathroom maintenance; kitchen cleanliness and equipment also disappoint some guests. Check your booking category carefully: towels and breakfast aren't included with every bed, and guests report luggage-storage and late-arrival charges. We'd skip it if dependable air-conditioning, spotless shared facilities or a lively social atmosphere are priorities.

Best for: budget-minded sightseeing trips; short stays near Termini; independent travelers comfortable with dorms
Watch out for: unreliable cooling and Wi-Fi; uneven bathroom and kitchen upkeep; category-dependent inclusions and extra charges
Location: Walkable Monti base near Santa Maria Maggiore, with Termini and the Colosseum within reach.
Rooms: Dorms and private rooms have en-suite bathrooms; beds and lockers earn praise, but cooling and maintenance vary.
Cleanliness: Many guests find rooms clean, but recent bathroom and kitchen complaints prevent a wholehearted recommendation.
Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength, although problem handling receives mixed feedback.
Amenities: Garden, shared kitchen and 24-hour reception; don't depend on strong Wi-Fi or well-stocked cooking facilities.
Fees and surprises: Check towel and breakfast inclusions, confirm late-arrival and luggage-storage charges, and note dorm companions aren't guaranteed together.
