Hotels in RomeA small, no-frills 2-star in Trastevere
7.1/10
A useful Trastevere budget base, but room condition is the compromise.
Hotel Carmel Roma is a small, no-frills 2-star worth considering if Trastevere’s restaurants matter more than polished interiors. Booking.com guests rate location and staff particularly well, while Tripadvisor guests praise the planted terrace. Recent Expedia reviews also include warm reports of helpful management and clean rooms. We'd shortlist it for a simple city break, rather than time spent lounging in the hotel.
The trade-off is uneven upkeep: tired furnishings, cramped bathrooms and maintenance problems recur, although cleanliness feedback is more positive than negative overall. Some rooms have private bathrooms outside the bedroom; check the exact category before booking. There is no elevator, and late arrivals need advance arrangements. We'd skip it if stairs, occasional noise or worn fixtures would spoil your stay.

Best for: Budget-minded couples and solo travelers; Trastevere dining and nightlife; Travelers seeking kosher assistance
Watch out for: Uneven room upkeep and occasional noise; Some private bathrooms are outside the bedroom; No elevator; arrange late arrivals
Location: Strong Trastevere base for restaurants, with public transport nearby; not beside every major sight.
Rooms: Simple, sometimes tired rooms; bathroom size and ensuite versus external layouts deserve attention.
Cleanliness: Generally positive feedback, but recent reports show it is not completely consistent.
Service: Helpful management earns frequent praise, though problem handling receives mixed reports.
Amenities: Garden terrace, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning; kosher and Shabbat assistance available by arrangement.
Fees and surprises: City tax is payable locally; confirm breakfast inclusion because official and booking-site descriptions differ.
