A strong sightseeing base with standout staff, but choose your room carefully. A historic 4-star boutique hotel directly opposite the Pantheon, scored for what it is.

Antico Albergo del Sole al Pantheon is a historic 4-star boutique hotel whose location earns its premium. We'd pick it for exploring central Rome on foot, especially with a confirmed Pantheon-view room. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests consistently praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and comfortable rooms. The hotel says its rooms were renewed at the end of 2020; this isn't simply an old building trading on its address.

The trade-offs are room-dependent: standard rooms can feel small, some suites occupy a separate building, and the busy square can bring nighttime noise. Courtyard-facing rooms are worth requesting if sleep matters more than the view. Booking.com still flags partial refurbishment and closures, with alternative access specified through September 30, 2026; confirm completion before booking. We'd skip it for guaranteed quiet or straightforward step-free access, but it's a strong choice for sightseeing-focused travelers.

• Best for: First-time Rome visitors; Couples wanting Pantheon views; Sightseers exploring on foot

• Watch out for: Square-facing rooms can be noisy; Small rooms, steps and separate-building suites; Confirm refurbishment completion and entrance

• Location: Directly on Piazza della Rotonda, with Piazza Navona and Trevi Fountain within easy walking distance.

• Rooms: Updated interiors; sizes, views and layouts vary substantially, so book the exact category you want.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Helpful, personable staff are one of the most consistent reasons guests recommend it.

• Amenities: Buffet breakfast, bar, free Wi-Fi and room service; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.

• Fees and surprises: Some suites are outside the main hotel; Booking.com's refurbishment notice has a September 2026 access deadline, but completion remains unverified.
