#7 of 9 hotels in Copacabana & Leme by Axel's take. Copacabana & Leme is #2 of 6 places to stay in Rio de Janeiro. The best hotels in Copacabana & Leme, ranked · Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Axel's take: 7.5/10

A practical Copacabana base, but the four-star polish is uneven. a traditional 4-star near Copacabana Beach, with uneven upkeep, scored for what it is.

Royal Rio Palace is a traditional 4-star a short walk from Copacabana Beach, better chosen for convenience than polished interiors. We'd consider it for a beach-and-sightseeing trip: Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the location, breakfast selection and helpful staff. The rooftop pool and bar add a worthwhile place to unwind without paying for a beachfront address.

The trade-off is inconsistent upkeep. Recent reviews across sites mention tired bathrooms, noisy plumbing and weak soundproofing; some also report air-conditioning faults. Cleanliness is generally rated positively, though housekeeping misses occur. Breakfast and lifts can get crowded, and guests report luggage-storage charges outside their stay. It's a good functional base if you'll spend most days exploring; we'd skip it for reliable quiet or a consistently polished four-star experience.

  • Best for: beach-and-sightseeing travelers; couples prioritizing location; travelers comfortable with older hotels

  • Watch out for: thin soundproofing and noisy plumbing; uneven room and bathroom maintenance; crowded breakfast and luggage-storage charges

  • Location: A short walk from Copacabana Beach, restaurants and Cardeal Arcoverde metro; not beachfront.

  • Rooms: Comfort and size vary; recurring complaints concern aging bathrooms, noise and occasional air-conditioning faults.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive ratings, with some recent reports of missed cleaning and bathroom issues.

  • Service: Helpful staff receive frequent praise, although reception and problem handling are inconsistent.

  • Amenities: Rooftop pool and bar, gym, steam sauna and buffet breakfast; guests flag dated fitness equipment.

  • Fees and surprises: Guests report paid luggage storage before check-in or after checkout; room water is not necessarily complimentary.
