Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong Copacabana base for beach views and helpful service, not modern polish. An old-fashioned mid-range hotel facing Copacabana Beach, scored for what it is.

Olinda Rio is an old-fashioned mid-range hotel directly across Avenida Atlântica from Copacabana Beach. It’s a strong pick if location matters more than contemporary interiors. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, generous breakfast and sea-facing rooms; overall feedback remains solidly positive. Book an explicitly ocean-view category rather than assuming every room overlooks the beach.

The trade-off is age: dated furniture and tired finishes recur across sites, and some inward-facing rooms disappoint. There’s no pool, so this works better as a sightseeing base than a resort-style stay. An August 2026 Expedia guest reported early-morning construction drilling; whether work continues is unconfirmed, so check before booking. We’d skip it if fresh interiors, extensive facilities or dependable daytime quiet are priorities.

• Best for: Beach-focused couples; Sightseers prioritizing location; Travelers who enjoy older hotels

• Watch out for: Dated furnishings and finishes; Standard rooms may face inward; Confirm construction status before booking

• Location: Across the avenue from Copacabana Beach, with restaurants nearby and the metro roughly ten minutes away on foot.

• Rooms: Sea-view and balcony categories are the draw; furnishings show their age and room outlook varies substantially.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated, with occasional housekeeping lapses rather than a dominant pattern of dirty rooms.

• Service: Helpful staff earn consistent praise; English proficiency can vary beyond reception.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, Wi-Fi and beach towels; no swimming pool.

• Fees and surprises: Verify breakfast inclusion and the final tax/service-charge breakdown; construction drilling was reported in August 2026.
