#5 of 7 hotels in Botafogo by Axel's take. Botafogo is #3 of 6 places to stay in Rio de Janeiro. The best hotels in Botafogo, ranked · Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A convenient Botafogo base, but room upkeep needs to catch up with the service. a practical 4-star chain hotel on Botafogo Bay, scored for what it is.

This practical 4-star Novotel is a good pick for exploring Rio from Botafogo rather than staying on Copacabana. Shopping, restaurants and the metro are within walking distance, and selected rooms have Sugarloaf views. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff and breakfast; the overall picture is positive, though this is more a functional city base than a special-occasion hotel.

The reservation is room consistency. Recent Accor guests repeatedly describe worn furnishings, faulty air-conditioning or bathroom maintenance, alongside some housekeeping lapses; street noise also appears across sites. An August 2026 guest reported construction at the entrance, so check whether access work has finished. We'd choose it for location and helpful staff, but skip it if immaculate upkeep or reliably quiet nights are priorities.

  • Best for: business travelers working in Botafogo; sightseers who use the metro; travelers prioritizing neighborhood convenience

  • Watch out for: uneven room maintenance and housekeeping; street noise in some rooms; entrance construction reported in August 2026; current status unconfirmed

  • Location: Near Botafogo Praia Shopping, restaurants and an approximately eight-minute walk from Botafogo metro.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable, with bay views in selected categories; recent guests flag worn furnishings and malfunctioning fixtures.

  • Cleanliness: Positive overall on major booking sites, but several recent Accor guests report housekeeping shortcomings.

  • Service: Friendly reception staff earn consistent praise; maintenance follow-through is less dependable.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, bar, gym and Rito Spa with sauna and jacuzzi; confirm spa charges and reservations.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and pets cost extra; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking, and entrance-work status needs checking.
