#8 of 9 hotels in Centro & Lapa by Axel's take. Centro & Lapa is #5 of 6 places to stay in Rio de Janeiro. The best hotels in Centro & Lapa, ranked · Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Axel's take: 6.3/10

Useful for Lapa on a budget, but cleanliness and upkeep need improvement. a budget-minded city hotel in Lapa, listed as four-star, scored for what it is.

Hotel Atlântico Prime is a budget-minded city hotel in Lapa, despite its four-star listing. We'd consider it for a short, inexpensive stay focused on downtown sights and nightlife—not for a polished hotel experience or beach holiday. Guests regularly appreciate the location, breakfast and helpful individual staff members. Expedia's overall feedback remains broadly positive, so the unhappy stays are not the whole picture.

Still, recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com reviews repeatedly flag inconsistent cleaning, mold, worn furnishings and slow problem handling; some also report cockroaches. Breakfast can become crowded, and room condition looks less convincing than the promotional photos. A fire on July 11, 2026 caused power and lift disruption, according to news coverage and guest accounts; later reviews show stays continued, but we'd confirm repairs before booking. Skip it if dependable housekeeping and hassle-free service matter more than keeping costs down.

  • Best for: budget-conscious Lapa visitors; short downtown sightseeing stays

  • Watch out for: inconsistent cleaning and mold reports; worn rooms and uneven service; confirm repairs following the July 2026 fire

  • Location: Convenient for Lapa nightlife and downtown sights; this is not a beachfront hotel.

  • Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms, but recent guests repeatedly describe worn furnishings and maintenance problems.

  • Cleanliness: Mixed rather than dependable, with recurring reports of dirty surfaces, mold and occasional cockroaches.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn praise, but check-in delays and poor complaint handling recur across sites.

  • Amenities: Buffet breakfast, restaurant, bar and gym; breakfast crowds and the gym's condition draw criticism.

  • Fees and surprises: Limited valet parking costs extra; confirm electrical and lift repairs after the July 2026 fire.
