#9 of 9 hotels in Ipanema & Leblon by Axel's take. Ipanema & Leblon is #4 of 6 places to stay in Rio de Janeiro. The best hotels in Ipanema & Leblon, ranked · Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro
Axel's take: 7.9/10
A strong Ipanema base, provided you can trade space and quiet for location. a compact mid-range hotel near Ipanema Beach, scored for what it is.
Astoria Ipanema, formerly Mar Ipanema, is a compact mid-range hotel whose biggest selling point is its address: a short walk from Posto 10, surrounded by shops and restaurants. We'd pick it for exploring Ipanema rather than lingering in the room. Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff and cleanliness, while the rooftop lounge, gym and complimentary beach equipment add useful extras. The hotel says its rooms were renovated between 2021 and 2023.
The trade-offs are small rooms and inconsistent quiet. Standard and Superior rooms are approximately 15 square meters; recent guests report street, neighboring-room and air-conditioning noise. Breakfast earns both enthusiastic praise and complaints about crowding and uneven quality. There is no swimming pool, despite some catalog listings. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, dependable silence or a resort-style stay matter more than being well placed.
