#2 of 2 hotels in Santa Teresa by Axel's take. Santa Teresa is #6 of 6 places to stay in Rio de Janeiro. The best hotels in Santa Teresa, ranked · Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A distinctive design-led stay, with superb views but some arrival caveats. An upscale seven-suite modernist guesthouse in hillside Santa Teresa, scored for what it is.

Chez Georges is an upscale seven-suite guesthouse in a modernist villa, not a conventional three-star hotel. It’s a strong pick for travelers who prefer thoughtful design and an intimate atmosphere to big-hotel facilities. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the comfortable rooms, breakfasts and welcoming staff; the pool and terraces overlooking Sugarloaf give the house a compelling sense of place.

The trade-off is hillside logistics rather than beachfront convenience: plan transport back uphill and choose your suite carefully, since views and balcony privacy vary. Most service feedback is excellent, but two August 2026 Tripadvisor reviews report confirmed bookings not being honored and inadequate help afterward. We’d reconfirm directly before arrival. Skip it if you want easy beach access or round-the-clock hotel operations.

  • Best for: Architecture and design lovers; Couples seeking an intimate stay; Travelers exploring Santa Teresa

  • Watch out for: Hillside transport logistics; Reconfirm third-party reservations; Views and balcony privacy vary

  • Location: Near Santa Teresa’s main square, with elevated views rather than beachfront convenience.

  • Rooms: Individually designed suites with king beds; some balconies are shared and some rooms face the neighborhood.

  • Cleanliness: A strong point across sources, including Booking.com’s 9.4 cleanliness rating.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff dominate feedback, tempered by two recent reports of unhonored reservations.

  • Amenities: Pool, panoramic rooftop and limited parking; the official site describes a garage elevator, contradicting Expedia’s listing.

  • Fees and surprises: Reserve parking ahead; Expedia lists a bank-transfer deposit and no after-hours check-in—confirm your booking’s terms.
