#7 of 7 hotels in Botafogo by Axel's take. Botafogo is #3 of 6 places to stay in Rio de Janeiro. The best hotels in Botafogo, ranked · Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Axel's take: 6.7/10

Character and a handy Botafogo location, but housekeeping needs more consistency. A basic budget guesthouse in an old Botafogo house, scored for what it is.

Casa Tuxi is a basic budget guesthouse, not a conventional hotel: an old Botafogo house with eclectic furnishings, a small outdoor pool and an informal atmosphere. Its strongest selling point is the location, roughly a ten-minute walk from the metro. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast, particularly the fruit, and many describe genuinely welcoming staff. It makes sense for flexible travelers who put neighborhood convenience ahead of polished rooms.

The reservations are about basics, not missing luxuries. Across recent Booking.com and Expedia reviews, dirty linen, uneven housekeeping and maintenance problems recur alongside positive stays. Some rooms also draw complaints about poor ventilation and awkward bathroom layouts. There is no elevator. We'd skip it if reliable cleanliness, bathroom privacy or step-free access are priorities; the house's personality doesn't fully compensate for inconsistent execution.

Best for: Flexible travelers on a budget; Metro-based sightseeing; Travelers who prefer informal guesthouses
Watch out for: Recurring housekeeping and linen complaints; Poor ventilation and awkward bathrooms in some rooms; No elevator
Location: Convenient Botafogo base, about eight to ten minutes on foot from the metro; not beachfront.
Rooms: Individual layouts and basic comfort; ventilation, bathroom privacy and maintenance vary.
Cleanliness: Mixed: positive reports coexist with repeated recent complaints about dirty rooms and bedding.
Service: Many guests praise the welcome, but problem handling receives some sharply negative reports.
Amenities: Small outdoor pool, bar, restaurant and free Wi-Fi; breakfast is a frequently praised feature.
Fees and surprises: Expedia lists pet fees and limited reception hours; confirm late arrivals and any luggage-storage charge.
