Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical UNC base with comfortable beds, but aging interiors and awkward parking. a casual 3-star hotel near UNC, scored for what it is.

This casual 3-star near UNC is a good pick for a short campus or hospital visit, rather than a hotel to build a trip around. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise comfortable beds, clean rooms and helpful staff. The indoor pool, gym and lobby bar add useful extras, while nearby restaurants give you alternatives to the hotel's limited food options.

The catch is consistency. Recent Tripadvisor guests describe worn carpets and furnishings, and several mention noisy air-conditioning. Parking is complimentary, but the shared garage arrangement can be confusing and spaces fill on busy weekends. Marriott lists housekeeping every other day; guests also report missed service and unreplenished supplies. Breakfast costs extra and draws complaints about limited choice. We'd skip it if you want freshly updated interiors, daily housekeeping or effortless game-day parking.

• Best for: short UNC campus visits; hospital visitors; travelers who value comfortable beds over polished interiors

• Watch out for: confusing parking and busy-weekend shortages; worn interiors and some noisy air-conditioning; limited breakfast and inconsistent housekeeping

• Location: Convenient for UNC and its medical center, with restaurants nearby; not a downtown Franklin Street stay.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds are a recurring strength; dated finishes and noisy air-conditioning temper the appeal.

• Cleanliness: Generally strong ratings and recent praise for clean rooms, despite occasional lapses and worn common areas.

• Service: Staff are often praised as friendly, but housekeeping follow-through is less dependable.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, fitness center, lobby bar and grab-and-go market; breakfast is not complimentary.

• Fees and surprises: Free parking requires a pass; overflow uses a nearby garage. Pets incur a fee, with conflicting published terms worth confirming.
