#9 of 9 hotels in Old Town (Centro Histórico) by Axel's take. Old Town (Centro Histórico) is #1 of 5 places to stay in Quito. The best hotels in Old Town (Centro Histórico), ranked · Where to stay in Quito
Axel's take: 7.1/10
A workable budget base, but housekeeping and bathroom consistency need checking. a basic budget guesthouse and hostel near Quito’s historic center, scored for what it is.
Travel House is a basic guesthouse and hostel, not a conventional three-star hotel. We’d consider it for an inexpensive sightseeing stay: Booking.com guests praise helpful staff, value and access to the historic center, with a good rather than exceptional overall rating. Private rooms and dorm beds are listed. Importantly, the supplied website belongs to Secret Garden, a different hostel at another address.
The trade-off is inconsistent upkeep. Booking.com’s recent-review summary flags mixed cleanliness and bathroom problems; a Hostelworld guest also reported a cold shower and intrusive noise. A 2026 Expedia-network guest liked the service but wanted better sheets. We’d skip it if reliable hot water, spotless bedding or quiet sleep are priorities. Confirm breakfast inclusion and arrival arrangements before booking, because listings disagree.
-
Best for: budget-minded sightseers; travelers comfortable with basic accommodation
-
Watch out for: uneven cleanliness and bathroom upkeep; possible noise between rooms; conflicting breakfast and arrival policies
-
Location: Near La Alameda and the historic center, with metro access within walking distance.
-
Rooms: Private bathrooms and dorm beds are listed; expect practical rather than polished accommodation.
-
Cleanliness: Mixed reports: clean rooms earn praise, but bedding and dusty floors also draw complaints.
-
Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are the most consistent positive across the reviewed sites.
-
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, breakfast and laundry are listed; Expedia says there is no elevator or onsite parking.
-
Fees and surprises: Confirm breakfast charges, payment methods and late check-in directly; booking sites publish conflicting terms.
