A comfortable Sainte-Foy base, but roadworks complicate an otherwise straightforward stay. a practical mid-range hotel in Sainte-Foy, outside Old Québec, scored for what it is.

Hotel Quartier is a practical mid-range hotel in Sainte-Foy, better suited to drivers than travelers wanting Old Québec on their doorstep. It's a strong pick for a straightforward stay: recent Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Free parking, an included breakfast buffet, an indoor heated pool and a gym make it useful for families and short business trips.

The biggest catch is the ongoing Boulevard Laurier road and tramway construction, which can complicate access; guests have also reported noise in front-facing rooms. Ask about a rear-facing room and current arrival directions. Some rooms require negotiating steps despite the elevator, so confirm step-free access if needed. We'd skip it for a car-free trip centered on wandering Old Québec.

• Best for: families traveling by car; short Sainte-Foy business trips; shopping and aquarium visits

• Watch out for: Boulevard Laurier construction and access disruptions; Old Québec requires transportation; steps on some room routes

• Location: Convenient for Sainte-Foy shopping and the aquarium, but roughly 10 km from Old Québec.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and well-equipped rooms; request a rear-facing room and confirm elevator access.

• Cleanliness: Consistently positive overall, including strong cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception is a repeated strength across guest-review sites.

• Amenities: Indoor heated pool, gym, free Wi-Fi, included breakfast buffet and free outdoor parking.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast is now included despite older reviews saying otherwise; nearby construction is the main current surprise.
