#5 of 6 hotels in Petit Champlain & Old Port by Axel's take. Petit Champlain & Old Port is #2 of 6 places to stay in Quebec City. The best hotels in Petit Champlain & Old Port, ranked · Where to stay in Quebec City

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong Old Port base for space, helpful service and practical comforts. a historic 4-star with suite-style rooms in Quebec City's Old Port, scored for what it is.

Hotel Port Royal is a historic 4-star in the Old Port, and we'd choose it for roomy accommodation and easy access to restaurants, galleries and waterfront sights. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. Many categories include kitchenettes, making this a particularly practical pick for families and longer stays. Louise Taverne adds convenient on-site dining.

Expect comfortable boutique accommodation rather than full-service luxury. Some recent Tripadvisor guests report sound carrying between rooms, patchy Wi-Fi and uneven finishes, although the overall feedback remains strongly positive. Room selection matters: several Building B rooms lack kitchenettes, and that building is across from the main hotel. Parking is limited and costs extra; breakfast may also be additional. We'd skip it if silence or uniformly polished luxury is essential.

  • Best for: families wanting suite-style space; couples exploring Old Quebec; pre- and post-cruise stays

  • Watch out for: sound transfer in some rooms; limited paid parking; Building B rooms vary in size and kitchen facilities

  • Location: Walkable Old Port setting near restaurants, Place Royale and the waterfront.

  • Rooms: Many spacious rooms with kitchenettes; check the exact category and building before booking.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent feedback, supported by strong Booking.com and Expedia cleanliness ratings.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff receive repeated praise across review sites.

  • Amenities: Louise Taverne, a bar, fitness facilities, free Wi-Fi and EV charging; some guests report unreliable internet.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking, breakfast and pets can cost extra; pets are restricted to designated room categories.
