Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong sightseeing base with sweeping views, comfortable rooms and big-hotel bustle. a modern 4-star high-rise just outside Old Quebec, scored for what it is.

Hilton Quebec is a modern 4-star high-rise just outside the old city walls, and it's a strong pick for comfortable sightseeing rather than historic atmosphere. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise clean rooms, comfortable beds, helpful staff and broad city views. The heated outdoor rooftop pool, open year-round, is a genuine extra for families. Direct access to the convention centre makes it equally practical for business trips.

The trade-off is scale: this is a busy conference hotel, not an intimate Old Quebec retreat. Some Tripadvisor guests describe crowded elevators, while parking access can be confusing. Breakfast gets plenty of praise, but recent Expedia guests repeatedly call it expensive; parking also costs extra. We'd choose it for views and dependable comfort, but skip it if period character or a quieter, smaller hotel matters most.

• Best for: first-time Quebec City visitors; families who want a pool; convention attendees

• Watch out for: busy conference-hotel atmosphere; breakfast and parking cost extra; confusing garage access

• Location: Just outside Old Quebec's walls, near Parliament and connected to the convention centre.

• Rooms: Comfortable contemporary rooms; choose the view category carefully for Old Quebec or river outlooks.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest reviews.

• Service: Usually praised as friendly and helpful, despite occasional uneven arrival experiences.

• Amenities: Year-round heated outdoor rooftop pool, gym, CABU restaurant and an executive lounge for eligible bookings.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast is not included with every booking; parking is paid and the garage clearance is six feet.
