Axel's take: 7.8/10

A good family beach resort, but less polished than its five-star billing. a sprawling, five-star-rated family all-inclusive on Bávaro Beach, scored for what it is.

Meliá Caribe Beach is a sprawling, five-star-rated family all-inclusive whose strongest assets are its beach, tropical grounds and activities for children. We'd shortlist it for a pool-and-beach holiday rather than a luxury escape. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the gardens, entertainment and individual staff members; Splash Island and the kids' club give younger children plenty to do.

The trade-offs are inconsistent dining and problem handling, some tired rooms, and long walks with waits for resort carts. Restaurant reservations can frustrate, and The Level's exclusive facilities mean not every experience is included in the standard package. A July 2026 guest reported noisy room renovations, acknowledged by management; whether work continues is unconfirmed. We'd skip it for polished luxury or easy, compact access to everything.

• Best for: families with younger children; beach-and-pool holidays; travelers who enjoy extensive gardens

• Watch out for: long walks and resort-cart waits; uneven dining and restaurant reservations; room-renovation noise reported in July 2026; current status unconfirmed

• Location: Directly on Bávaro Beach, but the extensive grounds make room placement important.

• Rooms: Spacious layouts; guests disagree on condition, with recurring reports of dated fittings and maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised on Expedia and Booking.com, though some guests report musty rooms.

• Service: Many warm staff shout-outs, offset by recurring complaints about slow problem resolution.

• Amenities: Multiple pools, Splash Island water park, kids' club and entertainment make families the clearest fit.

• Fees and surprises: The Level reserves some facilities for upgraded guests; spa treatments cost extra, and dining inclusions warrant checking.
