Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong beach-resort choice, but wait for its renovation reopening to prove itself. a large, upscale beachfront all-inclusive with family and adults-only sections, scored for what it is.

Majestic Colonial is a large, upscale beachfront all-inclusive, better suited to an activity-filled holiday than intimate luxury. Before its renovation closure, Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praised the friendly staff, clean grounds, broad beach and spacious pools. Its strong overall ratings make it a promising choice for families and couples wanting plenty to do, with a separate adults-only Club section.

The immediate catch: as of October 20, 2026, the resort is closed, with reopening announced for November 5, 2026. Majestic says more than 600 rooms are being completely renovated, alongside restaurants and pool areas. That addresses earlier complaints about dated rooms, but the results remain untested by returning guests. Caribbean Water Park is still advertised as coming soon; don't assume it will open with the hotel. We'd skip the first reopening weeks if dependable facilities and a settled operation matter most.

  • Best for: families wanting an activity-filled beach holiday; couples considering the adults-only Club; groups wanting varied dining and entertainment

  • Watch out for: Closed until the announced November 5, 2026 reopening; Caribbean Water Park opening not confirmed; Renovated experience not yet guest-tested

  • Location: Beachfront on Arena Gorda, approximately 26 km from Punta Cana airport; strongest for resort-based holidays.

  • Rooms: Previously spacious but dated; Majestic announces complete renovations of more than 600 rooms.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent pre-closure strength in Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback; post-renovation standards remain untested.

  • Service: Warm, friendly staff attract repeated praise, although some guests describe room-readiness and follow-up problems.

  • Amenities: Pools, dining, entertainment and an adults-only Club are key draws; the new water park remains coming soon.

  • Fees and surprises: Spa treatments, laundry and airport transfers cost extra; confirm reopening and facility availability before booking.
