Axel's take: 7.9/10

A strong family beach resort, but not a consistently polished five-star stay. a large, five-star beachfront all-inclusive geared toward families, scored for what it is.

Iberostar Selection Bávaro Suites is a large, five-star family all-inclusive whose strongest assets are its beachfront setting, tropical gardens and generous activity lineup. We'd choose it for an easygoing vacation with children rather than a luxury escape. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the entertainment, helpful staff and generally clean, spacious suites; the kids' club and splash pool give families more than just beach time.

The trade-off is consistency. Recent guests across several sites describe tired room fittings, maintenance shortcomings and uneven service, while dining earns both enthusiastic praise and complaints. Restaurant-booking frustrations also recur. The spread-out grounds mean substantial walking, and recent summer and September guests reported seaweed affecting swimming. Spa treatments and golf cost extra. We'd skip it if pristine contemporary rooms, seamless service or reliably clear seawater are essential.

• Best for: families with young children; active all-inclusive vacationers; beach lovers comfortable with seasonal seaweed

• Watch out for: dated fittings and uneven room maintenance; long walks across the grounds; variable seaweed and restaurant-booking frustrations

• Location: Direct beachfront setting; guests praise the gardens, but distances within the resort can be considerable.

• Rooms: Spacious junior suites with balconies or terraces; recent reviews still flag aging fittings and occasional equipment problems.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across major sites, though individual housekeeping and pest complaints exist.

• Service: Many guests praise friendly staff and entertainment teams; responsiveness and problem handling are less consistent.

• Amenities: Pools, children's splash area, Star Camp, gym and multiple restaurants; golf and spa treatments are available.

• Fees and surprises: Golf, spa treatments, diving and standard babysitting carry extra charges; Expedia lists no elevators.
