Axel's take: 6.9/10

A practical budget base, but room upkeep is inconsistent. a simple 3-star in Bávaro, a walk from the beach, scored for what it is.

Checkin El Cortecito is a simple 3-star in Bávaro, not the similarly named beachfront sister hotel. We'd consider it for a short, budget-minded stay: restaurants and shops are nearby, breakfast is included, and guests often praise helpful staff and spacious rooms. Booking.com's overall rating is good rather than glowing, which fits a useful base for travelers spending most of their time out.

The sticking point is consistency. Recent Trip.com and Tripadvisor reviews flag bathroom drainage, worn fittings and uneven housekeeping, alongside positive reports of clean, comfortable rooms. Breakfast also divides opinion. Guests report access to the sister property's beach club, but confirm current arrangements rather than assuming beachfront facilities are on site. We'd skip it if dependable room condition or a beach-at-your-door holiday matters most.

• Best for: budget-minded independent travelers; short stays in Bávaro; travelers eating out locally

• Watch out for: inconsistent maintenance and housekeeping; not the beachfront sister property; confirm beach-club access and transfers

• Location: Near local restaurants and shops, with the beach a walk away rather than directly outside.

• Rooms: Air conditioning, mini-fridges and some balconies; recent guests report plumbing and maintenance problems.

• Cleanliness: Many satisfactory reports, but recent housekeeping complaints make consistency a concern.

• Service: Helpful staff earn praise, though problem handling and English communication receive mixed feedback.

• Amenities: The official site confirms included breakfast, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; it does not advertise a pool or spa.

• Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; confirm beach-club transport and exactly which breakfast arrangements your booking includes.
