Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong adults-only beach escape, provided you prefer activity to absolute quiet. A lively, upscale adults-only beachfront all-inclusive in a large resort complex, scored for what it is.

Ambar is an upscale adults-only all-inclusive on Arena Gorda beach, and we'd pick it for a sociable, easygoing vacation rather than flawless five-star luxury. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the clean grounds, spacious suites and friendly staff. Swim-up rooms are a particular strength, while the beachfront setting, plentiful activities and access to sister-resort restaurants give you plenty of variety without leaving the complex.

The trade-offs are a lively main pool, uneven food feedback and a restaurant-booking app that several recent guests find frustrating. Reserve specialty dinners early; buffet quality draws more mixed reactions. Seaweed can also undermine the beach experience. Air Canada Vacations reports construction at sister property Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana through November 30, 2026, affecting its pool, restaurants and lobby—not Ambar's own facilities. We'd skip it for guaranteed tranquility or consistently polished luxury dining.

• Best for: Couples wanting a sociable adults-only escape; Swim-up suite enthusiasts; Travelers who enjoy resort activities

• Watch out for: Lively pool atmosphere and variable buffet food; Seasonal seaweed and frustrating dinner reservations; Sister-resort construction through November 30, 2026

• Location: Directly on Arena Gorda beach within a sprawling resort complex; seaweed conditions vary.

• Rooms: Spacious suites and popular swim-up options; some maintenance complaints, and no elevators.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Reddit accounts.

• Service: Warm staff earn frequent praise, though some guests report uneven service and app-related frustrations.

• Amenities: Pools, gym, spa, activities and sister-resort dining; specialty restaurants require reservations.

• Fees and surprises: Spa treatments and selected activities cost extra; nearby sister-resort renovations may limit shared facilities.
