Axel's take: 8.7/10
A dependable central base with excellent cleanliness and a few room-selection caveats. A comfortable upper-midrange hotel on Punta Arenas’ main square, scored for what it is.
Cabo de Hornos is a comfortable upper-midrange city hotel, not a basic three-star. Its main-square setting makes exploring Punta Arenas easy, and it’s a strong pick before or after a Patagonia expedition. Booking.com guests give particularly high marks for cleanliness and comfort; Expedia’s 2025–2026 reviews repeatedly praise helpful staff, well-maintained rooms and the included breakfast. FARO restaurant and the welcoming lounge add appeal beyond simply having somewhere to sleep.
The trade-offs are mostly practical. Standard doubles are 23 square metres, so don’t expect sprawling accommodation. Some Tripadvisor guests have reported warm rooms and street noise; light sleepers should request a quieter room and confirm cooling rather than assume air-conditioning. Free parking is several blocks away, limited and not reservable. We’d skip it if guaranteed doorstep parking or spacious rooms matter more than being right downtown.
