Hotel Providence is a historic 4-star boutique hotel that makes a good base for theater nights and exploring downtown on foot. Its appeal is old-fashioned character rather than contemporary luxury. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff, especially the valet team. We'd choose it for a short city stay where location matters more than extensive facilities.

The trade-offs are dated furnishings, uneven breakfast and occasional service lapses.
