Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong pick for playful design and tram access, not traditional four-star pampering. a playful, social 4-star hotel in Holešovice, scored for what it is.

Mama Shelter Prague is a playful 4-star in Holešovice, and a strong pick if you prefer a lively neighborhood base to an Old Town address. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Accor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds, welcoming staff and a generous breakfast. The restaurant, terrace and lobby games give it personality beyond the bedroom, while nearby trams make sightseeing straightforward.

The trade-off is a deliberately informal take on four-star comfort. Entry-level rooms are compact, and tea-and-coffee facilities aren't standard across room types. There is no hotel gym or room service. Some recent Accor guests report weak air-conditioning, worth checking if you sleep hot. We'd choose it for a sociable city break, but skip it if you want traditional pampering or major sights immediately outside.

• Best for: couples and friends on city breaks; travelers who enjoy sociable hotels; sightseers comfortable using trams

• Watch out for: outside the Old Town; no hotel gym or room service; some recent air-conditioning complaints

• Location: Holešovice offers nearby restaurants, shopping and convenient trams, rather than an Old Town doorstep.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds draw praise; Medium rooms start at 18 m², with limited standard tea-and-coffee facilities.

• Cleanliness: Consistently praised across sites, despite occasional housekeeping misses.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, though some guests describe uneven follow-through.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, terrace and lobby games are the draws; no hotel gym or room service.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on your booking; nearby garage parking costs extra and cannot be reserved.
