#2 of 9 hotels in Vinohrady & Žižkov by Axel's take. Vinohrady & Žižkov is #4 of 9 places to stay in Prague. The best hotels in Vinohrady & Žižkov, ranked · Where to stay in Prague

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A welcoming, good-value Prague base, provided you’re happy taking the tram. a traditional 4-star city hotel in Prague’s Žižkov district, scored for what it is.

Hotel Carlton is a traditional 4-star in Žižkov, and we’d pick it for a comfortable city break rather than luxury trimmings. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, generous room sizes and a varied breakfast. The breakfast room occupies the building’s original vaulted cellars, adding character. With restaurants nearby and handy trams into central Prague, it’s a strong alternative to staying among the Old Town crowds.

The trade-off is that those trams can also disturb sleep, particularly in street-facing rooms. Room condition is not completely consistent: some recent guests report dusty floors or tired bathroom fittings, though cleanliness feedback remains strongly positive overall. Light sleepers should request a quieter room, and we’d skip it if walking straight out to the main sights is essential.

  • Best for: value-minded city breakers; couples comfortable using public transport; travelers who prefer a neighborhood base

  • Watch out for: tram noise in street-facing rooms; some variation in room condition; confirm air-conditioning availability outside summer

  • Location: Žižkov restaurants and supermarkets nearby; convenient trams rather than an Old Town doorstep.

  • Rooms: Generally spacious, with kettles and minibars; some bathrooms and fittings draw criticism.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings, with occasional recent complaints about dusty or dirty floors.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception and breakfast staff are the most consistent strengths.

  • Amenities: Cellar breakfast restaurant, lobby bar, free Wi-Fi and air-conditioned rooms; confirm seasonal cooling.

  • Fees and surprises: City tax and parking, pet and transfer charges apply; Expedia lists a January 15–February 28 closure, so confirm winter dates.
