Hotels in Portsmouth, New HampshireA practical 3-star roadside hotel near I-95
7.2/10
A useful Portsmouth base for drivers, but ongoing renovations temper the appeal.
This is a practical 3-star roadside hotel, better suited to exploring Portsmouth by car than stepping straight into its historic center. We'd consider it for a short stop or business trip: Booking.com and Expedia guests regularly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff. Free overnight parking helps, and rooms have microwaves, mini-fridges and coffee makers. IHG says the guest rooms are fully renovated, although recent feedback on their condition remains uneven.
The bigger catch is ongoing public-space renovation. Recent guests describe construction noise, paint smells and disrupted common areas; a Tripadvisor guest also reported unavailable laundry, which management acknowledged. Breakfast isn't automatically included, and feedback on it varies. We'd skip it for a peaceful hotel-centered break or a car-free downtown weekend, and confirm facility access before booking.

Best for: road-trip stopovers; business travelers with a car; short sightseeing stays
Watch out for: ongoing public-space construction; breakfast inclusion varies by booking; not in the historic downtown core
Location: Convenient for I-95 and driving into Portsmouth; less suitable for a car-free downtown stay.
Rooms: Useful appliances and generally comfortable beds; renovation claims coexist with some dated-room reports.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and Expedia, despite occasional exceptions.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive repeated praise, including for handling problems.
Amenities: Pool, fitness center and restaurant are advertised; confirm access during renovations, especially laundry.
Fees and surprises: Overnight parking is free; breakfast may cost extra, and construction can disrupt common areas.
